When you get a moment, I would highly recommend installing Larry's Any Text File Indexer, a free plug-in.
You can search for keywords in specific files using the "filetype:" keyword in your search. Example: filetype:cs PageLoad As a side note...has anyone taken the time to research how resource intensive this app is? I barely notice it is there. I am wondering how much space is taken up by all of this caching.

I removed Google Desktop as it hung my system twice in as many weeks. It appeared to be some kind of duel between Outlook Express and Google Desktop; GD was trying to index an incoming message and OE was fighting it. This corrupted my inbox and required me to reboot in safe mode, restore my inbox from a backup, and then reboot. It took me about 3 hours of hair-pulling to deduce this.

If I didn't replace the inbox, OE wouldn't launch and GD would hog 99% of my machine cycles trying to index the corrupted message. On the other hand I tried Microsoft's desktop search and while it hasn't hosed my system yet, it could be faster, and it broke the button in my browser that highlights search terms on the page. I'm not sure either one is quite ready for prime time, but I suppose they'll work the kinks out. Links to this post: << Home |
